LAB.GRUPPEN's iP 450is a two-channel, 150 watts power amplifier designed for 19" rack mounting.
The iP 450 is an upgrade of the LAB 300. Improvements are; multiple position gain switch, Neutrik Combo-jack and Phoenix screw-terminal as input connectors. The iP 450 fulfills the EMC directive for PFC.
The iP 450 has the same functions, features and protection circuits as LAB.GRUPPEN's high power amplifiers. This makes the iP 450 one of the few professional power amplifiers in the low-medium power level class. Most other brands of power amplifier in this class use to save on the above mentioned functions.
Eight 150 watts bipolar power tranistors constitute the output stages, which are totally complimentary. The power transistors are mounted "directly to metal" on an extruded aluminium cooling fin. The output circuit have an improved efficiency design by linear tracking principle. Thanks to this passive cooling is possible in an 1U small package without fan-ventilator. Several iP 450;s can be stacked without thermal problems.
The iP 450 is completely short-circuit protected - even in reactive loads. The iP 450 is equipped with LAB.GRUPPEN's specially designed short-circuit protection, which permits very high peak-currents, but which yet holds the transistors within the so-called "Safe Operation Area". This makes it possible to run loudspeakers with impedance variations, which are considerably lower than the lowest permitted impedance of the power amplifier.
Five more protection circuits, which are separate for each channel, protect the iP 450 and the loudspeakers:
Two DC protections; one DC current limitation protection, supplemented with fuses on each DC voltage power supply rail; and one DC voltage protection of Crowbar type, which works in that way that the output is short-circuited to protect the load.
Thermal protection; prevents the iP 450 from being overheated. The temperature indicators on the front panel is switched on, as a warning, before the protect-shutdown occurs.
VHF protection(Very High Frequency); protects the loudspeakers against strong non-musical signals above the audible area.
Clip Limiter; prevents severly clipped waveforms from reaching the loudspeakers, but maintains full peak power.
